Get involved

Blakemore Children’s Center welcomes volunteers and gratefully appreciates the contributions they make to the success of our program. Below is a list of volunteer opportunities, but we are open to and welcome your ideas. Please contact us if you’d like to get involved.

  • Reading Partner: Come share a story during circle time, read to a small group or one on one with a child.

  • Special Visitor: Share a special talent or activity with the children, such as playing an instrument.

  • Field Trip Chaperone: Join us on a walking field trip in our neighborhood or accompany us to the public library, etc. when we ride the Metro bus.

  • Library Volunteer: Help is needed to catalogue and card our books.

  • Blakemore Children’s Center Board Member: Meetings are held quarterly.

  • Fundraising Committee: Coordinate fundraising events like The Big Payback

  • Website/Technology: Help us keep our website updated, market through social media, etc.

  • Development/Grant writing: Help fund special projects, the scholarship fund, etc. by writing a grant.

  • Special Events/Fundraisers: Help with special events/fundraisers.

    • Spaghetti Supper with Santa and Book Fair: Volunteers are needed to sell tickets, photograph children with Santa, help in the kitchen, and sell books.

    • Thanksgiving Feast and Year-End Celebration: Volunteers are needed to help set up, cook, and clean after the events.

    • Cookie Sale

  • Garden/Landscaping: The infant/toddler playspace is a natural playscape, and we can always use help planting and maintaining our greenspace. The preschool plants a vegetable garden and incorporates plants and other natural elements which need tending. Come teach children the value of their natural surroundings.

  • Painting/General Maintenance: We always need help keeping the center in “tip top shape”.

  • Work Days: Participate in one of our work days, which are generally scheduled Spring and Fall. This is a great way to contribute our environment.
